The Director of E-Commerce is responsible for all aspects of the E-Commerce business. A main component of this job will be to run the owned media (catalog, email marketing, onsite messaging, social marketing) and manage vendors who handle our SEM, SEO, Digital Advertising, Catalog Analytics, and Site Functionality for The Republic of Tea. This position works hand in hand with Minister of Information (CTO) and will be heavily involved in the day-to-day details. It also involves managing internal designers, and managing/mentoring E-Commerce Specialists who help with special projects and our other brands.


  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies across all direct and digital media channels from concept to launch
  • Directly manage (via our internal team) our owned media marketing: Catalog, Email, Onsite Messaging,
  • Lead and manage all aspect of direct (catalog) marketing
  • Interface with the vendors who handle the other facets of our digital marketing including SEO, SEM, Affiliate, Remarketing, New Customer Acquisition, Marketplaces including Amazon and other future channels.
  • Develop digital marketing programs to support awareness, customer acquisition, customer retention and development via digital advertising, email marketing, social media and mobile marketing, etc.
  • Develop website testing roadmap to include a variety of test designs with clear and measurable business objectives
  • Research, business development and launch of new digital marketing programs to better acquire and retain customers.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting digital marketing budget aligned with overall business objectives and reports on actual, budgeted and forecasted projections
  • Provide analytics on effectiveness of all digital and traditional marketing channels
  • Lead effort for website optimizations and other forms of a/b and multivariate tests associated with digital marketing focused on improving click through and conversion rates
  • Provide leadership to internal team and partner with our digital marketing agencies to maximize overall return


  • Bachelor's Degree (or preferably, an MBA)
  • 3-5 years' experience in revenue-oriented digital marketing OR 1-2 years experience in revenue-oriented digital marketing (with an MBA)
  • Experience in digital marketing tools including Email Service Providers, Search Engine Marketing, Google Analytics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective internal and external relationships, and influence change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong business, data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Extraordinary collaboration skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Self-starter and able to solve medium to complex problems

This position will be located in St Louis with regular visits to our HQ in Nashville, Il (~50 miles away from St Louis) and some travel to our other office locations:  Novato, CA and Boston, MA.
