Maintenance Technician-Lead

The Lead Technician has primary responsibility for leading the implementation of engineering activities for the Nashville, Illinois, facility to ensure cost efficient and safe processes for producing our teas and concentrates. This includes leading the improvement efforts in cost, processes and safety. This role works in a team environment, with minimal supervision. Hours are Monday - Friday, 5:30am - 2:00pm.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Engineering

  • Programmable logic controller (PLC) knowledge and ability to read, write and modify logic on a variety of platforms such AB, Mitsubishi, Omron, etc.
  • Lead planning and coordinating activities concerned with design, construction, modification, of machinery in plant with focus on process improvements to facilitate existing equipment running at its maximum potential.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts within product development, eliminates injury and safety issues (repetitive motion), and faulty design and waste efficiency issues; identifies opportunities and develops justifications and ROI to gain approval for new technology.
  • Follow all policies for automation, installation, modification, quality control, testing, operating procedure, inspection, and maintenance of equipment according to engineering principles, safety regulations and SQF guidelines.
  • Assist with and coordinate requirements for new designs, surveys, and machinery improvements to accommodate facility expansion for rapid growth
  • Assist with capital projects including identifying scope, cost, milestones, ; lead installation of large-scale capital expense projects
  • Learns details of tea packaging and develops solutions to optimize existing fill methods.
  • Tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.
  • Provides mechanical and process expertise to the company.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Troubleshooting high speed packaging equipment and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting PLC, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Work in and understand a lean environment.
  • Ability to understand solid state, digital and programmable logic controls (PLC)
  • Must follow standards for Industrial Safety.
  • Knowledge of General OSHA laws for manufacturing.
  • Ability to provide line support to maintain the goal of 3% or lower downtime.
  • May be responsible for reading manuals, determining parts needed and sourcing parts for quotes.
  • Expected to do fabrication work such as welding, cutting and assembly in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years maintenance technician experience in a manufacturing environment. This position will work closely with line operators and be expected to train and assist them on technical problems.
  • B.S. in Engineering preferred (mechanical, industrial)
  • Experience leading large-scale projects and sourcing and leading contractor/sub-contractor groups.
  • Must have excellent safety record.
  • Knowledge of SQF and GMP requirements.
  • General knowledge to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to lift 65 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to repair and maintain PLC, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Good attention to detail and be able to work in a clean, safe manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
