Transportation/Shipping Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY

Hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8AM - 4:30PM. Responsible for preparation and shipment of all domestic and international LTL ground and truck shipments. This includes the following areas of operation:

-Provide support and direction of employees engaged in the picking and shipping of LTL ground and pallet shipments at the Nashville, Illinois Fulfillment Center.

-Perform logistics activities to support Manufacturing and Fulfillment, including load verification and preparation of paperwork for all outbound domestic and international LTL (less than truckload), LCL (less than container load) and truckload shipments, and inbound domestic LTL and truckload shipments.

-Utilize off-site inventory and source logistics providers to support ground, LTL and truckload shipments and product transfers from third party co-packers and distribution centers.

-Other duties assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assign outbound load dates and ship truck orders in a timely manner to meet or exceed delivery window specified by customer.
• Prioritize on-site pallet order work schedule and expedite workflow to obtain maximum staff effectiveness and efficiency.
• Contact carriers and third-party logistics providers to arrange shipments and deliveries.
• Oversee work for accuracy, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
• Prepare paperwork for each domestic shipment, including Bill of Lading, Packing list, and customer-specific documents.
• Prepare paperwork for each international shipment, including Pro Forma/Commercial Invoice, Certificate of Origin, Shippers Letter of Instruction, Carton/Pallet labels, inland Bill of Lading, Packing list, and country-specific documents.
• Ensure all vendor-mandated shipping guidelines are researched and followed (Vendor Compliance Manuals)
• Confer with other managers to ensure coordination of other functions such as production, inventory management, quality assurance, and customer service.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and injury-free workplace always.
• Assist with monthly inventory at Nashville and off-site storage facilities.
• Ensure proper product rotation and availability within established variance guidelines for Nashville and off-site inventory.
• Elevate critical issues to senior management as appropriate.
• Prioritize and direct forklift operators.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 2+years of related experience including transportation, scheduling, shipping or receiving.
• Proven experience and/or training in the field of logistics and shipping
• Communicate well up and down the chain of command, including indirect reports, peer group, upper management, outside vendors, and customers.
• Good communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Problem solving abilities
• Proven leadership skills
• Multi task and works well under stress and with tight timelines
• Forklift certified or willing to be certified

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Able to lift 50 lbs. on own up to 4 or 5 times daily;
• Must be able to climb rolling ladder;
• Able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
